Position Description

Title: Children’s Ministry Coordinator

Position Type: Part-time, salaried, nonexempt

Hours: 20 hours per week

Schedule: Flexible/hybrid schedule based on ministry needs; regular Sunday morning presence and occasional evening/weekend events are required

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $18,750-$26,000/year, based on qualifications and experience

Purpose: The Children’s Ministry Coordinator leads LUMC’s ministry to children from nursery through 5th grade by creating safe, engaging, Christ-centered opportunities for discipleship, equipping volunteers and staff, and partnering with families to help children grow in their faith.

Qualifications:

• A growing relationship with Jesus Christ, a love for the local church, and alignment with LUMC's mission, beliefs, and core values.

• Passion for children's discipleship and experience in children's ministry, education, volunteer leadership, or a related setting.

• Strong leadership, organization, communication, and relationship-building skills, including the ability to recruit and support volunteers.

• Ability to collaborate, manage multiple priorities, and exercise sound judgment and discretion.

• Bachelor's degree in Christian education, education, ministry, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.

• Successful completion of required background screening and ongoing compliance with LUMC Safe Sanctuaries policies and training.

• Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: teaching or leading children's ministry, curriculum planning, volunteer coordination, and/or working with children in educational or faith-based settings.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Lead Rock City Ministry: Oversee nursery-5th grade Sunday programming and create safe, engaging, Christ-centered opportunities for children to grow in their faith.

• Volunteer & Staff Leadership: Recruit, train, schedule, mentor, and support adult and youth staff and volunteers.

• Family Engagement: Build strong relationships and communicate regularly with parents and families to encourage faith development at church and at home.

• Programs & Events: Plan and coordinate Vacation Bible School and other children's/family ministry events throughout the year.

• Ministry Administration & Safety: Coordinate curriculum, scheduling, check-in processes, Safe Sanctuaries compliance, and other administrative needs of the ministry.

• Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with pastors, staff, and ministry leaders to align children's ministry with LUMC's mission and vision.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

• Pray regularly for the children, families, staff, and volunteers of LUMC.

• Oversee weekly Rock City and nursery programming, including check-in, classroom readiness, staffing, and family engagement.

• Recruit, train, schedule, mentor, and support children's ministry staff and volunteers, ensuring appropriate ministry coverage.

• Select, prepare, and distribute age-appropriate curriculum and resources in a timely manner.

• Communicate regularly with parents and families regarding ministry activities, opportunities, and important information.

• Maintain Safe Sanctuaries practices and ensure required training and screening remain current for children's ministry staff and volunteers.

• Plan and coordinate Vacation Bible School and other children's/family ministry events.

• Teach regularly in Rock City on Sunday mornings and support opportunities for the coordinator to participate in worship when feasible.

• Attend monthly staff meetings and meet weekly with the supervising pastor.

• Perform other ministry-related duties as reasonably assigned in support of LUMC's mission and ministries.
